Have you ever wonder what would happen if your crush happened to receive the secret love letter that you wrote for them? Well, I don’t know about you but that’s the cases for Lara Jean. And to make it worse, it’s not just one but five of them. Yep, you read that right, a total five of them!
To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before is a 2018 Neflix teen romance film directed by Susan Johnson based on the adaptation of the same title novel, written by Jenny Han. For the novel version, To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before is then followed by two sequels, P.S. I Still Love You and Always and Forever, Lara Jean.

The story tells about Lara Jean (Lana Condor), a 16-year-old high school student who always loves to fantasize about romance, but in real life, she is actually afraid of being in a real relationship. In previous years, she wrote love letters to boys that she has had crushes on, but she never send them. Instead, she kept all her secret loves letters in a hatbox her late mother gave her.
Yet, when one day the five letters are somehow mailed out, she started to panic especially because she wrote one to Josh, her older sister Margot’s ex. To prove to Josh that she’s over him, Lara Jean pretends to date popular Peter Kavinsky (Noah Centineo), who agrees to the idea as an attempt to make his former girlfriend, Gen, jealous. As the two start their fake relationship, what they didn’t know is that they started to develop real feelings for each other.

From my point of view as the viewer of this movie, I personally think that this movie is that kind of movie: the kind that is sweet and addictive which makes the viewers can actually repeat the movie for multiple times. This movie does not only shows about loves, but it also portray the bonds between families. The way each Lara Jean and Peter Kavinsky bonds with their family was amazing even though both of the families were incomplete. (Her mother is dead and his father walked out.)
Watching this movie will definitely brings back that butterflies feeling in your stomach whenever you used to write your crush a secret love letter or mentioned them in your diary. (Come on everyone done this before!).
This movie teach me that sometimes loves will come to you at the most unexpected time, in the most unexpected way. All you have to do is believe in yourself and let everything falls onto its place.
Or maybe you can try to write your crush a love letter? Who knows you might be the next Lara Jean!
