History of MPH
MPH was founded by Captain W.G. Shellabear and in 1890 he establish the Amelia Bishop Press in Singapore to publish the Christian literature. However, the company changed its named to American Mission Press in 1893 as they began to publish secular works. In 1900s, Rev. William T. Cherry eventually expanded the company activities to printing, publishing, bookselling and distribution. In 1906, the company once again changed its name to Methodist Publishing House, which give rise to the acronym ‘MPH’ as the company is known until today. After changing ownership for a few times, a Malaysian businessman, Syed Mokhtar Al- Bukhary, acquired the company through Jalinan Inspirasi Sdn. Bhd.
Currently MPH Bookstores have 32 outlets in Malaysia where most of it can be found in the Klang Valley area. MPH Bookstores can be found in major shopping outlets including Giant Stadium Shah Alam, Nu Sentral, Subang Parade, 1 Utama, The Curve and Kuala Lumpur Internation Airport 2 (KLIA2). There are also 4 MPH outlets in Singapore.
Other than books MPH Bookstores also offers other products such as toys, stationeries and magazines that can be purchase at an affordable price.
A part from being active in book selling, MPH also involve in lots of promotions. The latest event that was hosted by MPH was MPH Children’s Book Festival. The event last from 10 September until 21 September 2018 and the event took place in Publika.
